Friday 01/03/2024 - The Frog & Fiddle, Cheltenham
Friday night down at the Frog and Fiddle for the first official Heat of Metal 2 The Masses Cheltenham.
Five excellent bands on show, first up were Cheltenham-based UP SHOT with a bit of grunge mixed in with some desert rock/punk/blues vibes that got the night started in the right direction.
Then, making their way up from Bournemouth for the night, it was the four-piece PYROFOX. Blending hard rock with alt-rock and elements of grunge, their set was great fun, they really brought the energy up a notch and quite frankly they were bloody excellent.
Up next were eventual winners on the night, mixing old school metal with southern groove and stoner metal, Stroud-based three piece ROLLIN SIXES.
The unbelievably talented blade runner inspired prog two-piece and also Cheltenham-based MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN then took the stage. These guys have to be seen to be believed, their set was super tight and hard to believe that all that epicness was coming out of just two people.
Finishing the night off, it was the Worcestershire doom/sludge trio AT WAR WITH THE SUN.
It was great to see so many excellent bands on show, genuinely any one of them would have deserved to win through to the finals.
I have my season ticket secured for the remaining heats and final in June so I have no excuse not to get down and support the rest of the local unsigned metal scene.
